IGE INITIATIVE
UNITED NATIONS - ECOSOC
The United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC); is one of the six principal organizations of the United Nations, responsible for coordinating the economic and social fields of the organization.
ECOSOC serves as the central forum for discussing international economic and social issues and formulating policy recommendations addressed to member states and the United Nations System.
It has 54 members. In addition to a rotating membership of 54 UN member states, over 1,600 nongovernmental organizations have consultative status with the Council to participate in the work of the United Nations.
Dr. Bernard Starr, Mitchell Rabin and Richard Schiffman, IGE’s United Nations ECOSOC representatives in New York, monitor the activities of the UN and participate when appropriate.
They attend relevant meetings and consultations at the UN headquarters and work with agencies both in and outside the UN to strengthen and empower IGE in its global mission.
Their activities have included representing IGE in the deliberations of the UN’s Economic and Social Council, https://ecosoc.un.org/en, and participating in developing priorities for the UN Aging Program, helping develop a proposal on Elders for Peace and helping to organize interfaith events with a variety of NGOs at the UN.
